 GaySoFla.com recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dance Music Diva Tania Mashay and discuss her music and her passions. Following is the unabridged exclusive interview.
GSF: Thank you for taking a minute to sit down and talk with us. Please tell us a bit about your self and your back ground and your experience thus far in the Dance Music industry?
TANIA: First of all, I want to say thank you for devoting some of your time to take an interest in me! I will keep this one pretty simple. I come from a small town in New Jersey and a middle child of 4. When I was young I was always the one to entertain the family through singing and performing. It's kinda weird that I came so alive being I was always the quiet one except when I got to perform. I loved to do it but never had many opportunities to express it. That’s all she wrote.
On this side of the music industry it's a tough business! I've had my share of ups and downs and the in betweens in this business, but you know in entertainment it's expected. Honey, those downs help my creativity and songwriting. So hats off to the haters in the business. I just shake off the negativity and turn it into positive while holding my head up!
The best things Dance Music has done for me is grow as a person and it watered my talent seed. It also gave me a great following of people who like to shake their ass to my tunes!!
GSF: How would you describe your singing, writing and creative process and style?
TANIA: I put myself, my wild personality and life experiences in all 4 of those. Being unique and letting what your truly feeling and thinking come to life. I'm sure you've heard it before but as an artist I feel on stage while performing I become the story I am telling to my audience, hence, my performance side takes over! It's so true!
GSF: You've been making quite a lot of noise the last couple of months, starting with your performances during this year’s 2009 winter music conference. What do you attribute your widespread appeal in such a competitive world of Dance music performers?
TANIA: Just being free and uninhibited. You got to go out there and just give it to them hard. There are many great talents out there and we can learn from. Find the ones that you admire and educate that mind and desire to take it to the next level.
GSF: We are aware that you are working with Maximus 3000, how long have you two been working together and how did you two connect to collaborate?
TANIA: It was several Winter Music Conferences ago that we met. Maximus 3000 is a very talented individual with visions. We've been working together for about 2 yrs now. How we came about collaborating is pretty simple Maximus 3000 was cleaning house in the label department and I was cleaning house with the bullshit producer department so it was love at first sight! What just put the icing on the cake is that we both have very vivid imaginations creatively and in the past producers that I worked with wanted to simply follow the trend and not step outside of the box.
GSF: You recently did a photo shoot with the innovative Karl Giant, how was it like working with someone who's worked with Mega stars like Cyndi Lauper, Ultra Nate, Tyra Banks and more?
TANIA: It was absolutely Fu*king fantastic! The best photo shoot orgasm a girl could ever hope for! (Laughs out loud) It really was amazing working with Karl! He's a true artist at what he does and he has visions just like any true artist. He doesn't work with just anyone, even if you’re close to him. Unless you fit in his vision! I've known Karl Giant for almost 10 yrs now and he really is someone I can call a true friend. When an artist like Karl who works with some of the top notch people in entertainment wants to work with you, honey, you set that alarm clock and walk that run way or drive on it all the way to the studio. Working with Karl was absolutely amazing!
GSF: Your Debut Single "Can't Stop Movin!" has been charting on several Record Pools and even landed a featured spot on Masterbeat.com's home page.
GSF: How did that feel, knowing your debut single was a shot out of the ballpark?
TANIA: It feels really good! You know you go into the game giving it your all on every song no matter what. You don't create a track or an album for the charts. You create for you. You create it for your fans. When that work is recognized it gives you motivation to know that they love it! Certainly inspires me to create more and certainly taking it to the next level!
GSF: We noticed you recently created a tribute video on your youtube.com page for the World recognized Aids benefit organization Keepachildalive.org. What inspired and moved you to create such a moving video and are there any other philanthropic works in your future?
TANIA: I lost a cousin to that fu*ked up disease! When I caught the campaign to the KeepAChildAlive organization it really inspired and touched me and it felt genuinely sincere.
I signed up several years ago and have been a contributor to the cause ever since. I created this video to help inspire others to join. I had no idea that KeepAChildAlive would use my commercial as a skeleton for there commercial contest. It was a great honor and I was deeply touched by this. Christmas time is right around the corner and canned goods for the needy for the Thanksgiving Holiday is even closer. I have tons of canned goods that I won't use so I will be donating clothes and canned good to these organizations like the Salvation Army to give to those that are needy. Every person contributing makes a big difference...so let me put this in caps....IF YOU HAVE EXTRA CLOTHING YOU DON'T WEAR OR CANNED GOODS YOU WON'T EAT THEN TAKE 1 HOUR OUT OF YOUR DAY AND CONTRIBUTE...!!
GSF: Tell us a little bit about your upcoming projects. Are you releasing any new music soon, performing anywhere, things of that nature?
TANIA: I mentioned earlier that Maximus and myself have very vivid imaginations. Put it this way the projects in our future are going to incorporate that. What I can tell you is that we are putting together a tour called ROCK THE WORLD TOUR! you can check that out at www.rocktheworldtour.com! TANIA: I have some really amazing ASS shaking music coming and that I am pushing the bar on the making and performing of it. Let's just sum it up like this.....I call it the RE-INVENTION of TANIA
