The Off Broadway In Broward Series begins its new season with the award-winning high-energy rock musical Bare from Thursday, September 9 through Saturday, September 18 in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Often compared to Rent and Spring Awakening, this Off Broadway musical hit follows five Catholic high school seniors struggling with issues of personal and sexual identity as they get ready to graduate and face the world.

The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Angst and skin are revealed in a pop musical work loaded with raw emotion and its own strong voice.”

Bare features music by Damon Intrabartolo and lyrics Jon Hartmere, Jr. while both men collaborated on the book. Its infectious rock music score electrifies traditional and gay love stories alongside the everyday insecurities of not knowing who we are and where we fit in, laying them all out for scrutiny. This production contains adult themes and subject matter.

The musical has won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for best score, the L.A. Weekly Award for best original score and best musical, the Ovation Award for best musical and Broadway.com’s Audience Award for best off-Broadway musical.

Performances are on Thursday, September 9 at 8 p.m.; Friday, September 10 at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, September 11 at 5 and 9 p.m.; Sunday, September 12 at 7 p.m.; Monday, September 13 at 8 p.m.; Friday, September 17 at 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday, September 18 at 5 and 9 p.m.
