The Human Rights Campaign, a LGBT equality rights group, has released the findings from its 2010 Corporate Equality Index. Among the companies that see little value of worker equality are AutoZone, Cracker Barrel, and Exxon
Considered by the organization to be “the premier benchmark for businesses to gauge their success on LGBT inclusion against competitors,” the yearly survey assesses corporate treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees at hundreds of the country’s largest companies.
Criteria considered includes whether discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is prohibited and whether same-sex partners are eligible for health insurance benefits. Also taken into consideration were diversity training programs, internal LGBT resource groups and company marketing campaigns.
Not all of the companies surveyed displayed a high level of equality and inclusiveness, and some earned scores in the index that were downright dismal.
The following are companies that scored the worst in the HRC survey of corporate LGBT policy below:
YRC Worldwide Inc. AutoZone Inc. Baldor Electric Co. BNSF Railway Co. Dana Holding Corp. Lear Corp. Meijer Inc. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. Laclede Group Inc. Exxon Mobil Corp.
This year, the HRC reports that 305 businesses, representing over 9 million full-time employees, earned perfect scores in the Corporate Equality Index. To view the complete report visit: http://www.hrc.org/issues/workplace/cei.htm
