FLORIDA TOGETHER BACKS FLIPPEN FOR STATE HOUSE PDF Print E-mail

JUPITER, FLORIDA - Florida Together, a statewide organization dedicated to securing equal rights and protections for all Floridians, today announced its support of Justin Flippen in the campaign for Florida State House, District 92.


"Justin's candidacy presents a historic opportunity to elect the first openly gay State House member" said Michael Kenny, Florida Together's Executive Director. "Justin is a true advocate for civil rights and equality. All Floridians will greatly benefit from having Justin serving in the State House of Representatives.

Florida Together's support, means Flippen will be highlighted and promoted statewide and introduced to more than 80 local political, social and service organizations which are Florida Together Federation members. As an officially supported candidate, Flippen will be promoted in organization communications and supported with financial resources and volunteers. "It's a very exciting time for me to get such an endorsement," said Flippen. "Florida Together and I share a mutual commitment towards the pursuit of equality for everyone, and I look forward to working with them in the State Legislature to fulfill Florida's promise of civil rights and justice for all.

In 2007, the City Commission appointed Justin to the Wilton Manors Board of Adjustment where he served until his election to the Wilton Manors City Commission. In November 2008, after receiving the most votes cast for any city candidate in Wilton Manors history, Justin Flippen was elected as a city commissioner. Upon taking office, his commission colleagues unanimously elected him Vice Mayor. As Vice Mayor, Justin served as an Alternate Director to the Broward League of Cities.

Active in the community, Justin is a member of the Historical Society, Kiwanis Club, Wilton Manors Business Association, Central Area Neighborhood Association (CANA), Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge 47, Stonewall Library and Archives, Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association, University of Florida Alumni Association, Human Rights Campaign, Sierra Club, as well as the local chapter of the NAACP. He has also been a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Friends of the Library, Main Street, Westside Association of Wilton Manors (WAWM), and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center Founder's Circle. In June 2009, Justin was elected to the FAU National Alumni Association Board of Directors.
