Halo Lounge in Miami Beach seemed a fitting venue for Omar Gonzalez’s 5^th Annual Holiday Toy Drive party held this past weekend. While no round ‘solar discs’ were visible above the heads of the gay bars’ patrons, the massive pile of new toys in front of the DJ booth was evidence enough that Christmas angels were present.   

Governor Charlie Crist and businesswoman Carole Rome were wed under tight security at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg last week.  It was the second marriage for both.  As Florida’s Chief Executive and his bride enjoyed a ‘tender and brief’ kiss before 200 invited guests inside the church, over 250 gay demonstrators stood outside seeking the opportunity to marry even once.

In the 2007 Miami Beach City Commission election, Ed Tobin beat Michael Gongora by a thin margin of 33 votes by painting Gongora as an ethically challenged gay party boy.  But if an ethics complaint filed last week against Tobin with the Miami Dade County Commission on Ethics is true, the old adage that says “That’s like the pot calling the kettle black!” has never been more apropos. 

Wedding planners for Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s upcoming nuptials to fiancée Carole Rome may want to consider putting out a few hundred extra chairs. GaySoFla.com has learned that opponents of the recently passed gay marriage ban amendment are planning to crash the event. 

Mayor Matti Bower joined over 500 gay rights supporters Saturday on the steps of Miami Beach City Hall to protest the recent passage of  the anti-gay Amendment 2. 

On the Saturday after the Presidential Election, Geo Bustamante, 22, received a call from singer Pepper Mashay. The dance music artist who is best known for her “Let’s get soaking wet” chant on the hit Barry Harris track “Dive in the pool”, was calling from California.  “What are you guys in Florida doing about these discriminatory statutes being enacted into our laws, Baby?” Mashay asked the young writer.

While members of California’s LGBT Community have taken to the street en masse to protest Proposition 8, it seems Florida gays are resigned to having LGBT inequality enshrined into their state’s constitution.  After 62 percent of Floridians voted for Amendment 2, little has been done to protest the discriminatory measure…until now!
