Church Prays for More Deaths from Missouri Floods PDF Print E-mail
Written by David L. Wylie

The parishioners of Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) in Topeka, Kansas would like to wish everyone in flood-ravaged Missouri a Happy Easter and, oh yeah, they hope you all die!

We’re not sure how Gaysofla.com got on their email list, since the church members and their pastor  Fred Phelps don’t take too kindly to homosexuals and all, but a press release from the publicity starved pseudo-church arrived in our inbox yesterday.

Calling
Missouri the ‘Land of the Sodomite Damned’, the press release thanks God for the loss of life during that state’s floods this week.  The press release goes on to say that the church is praying for the death of 5,000 more people.  In the badly formed and formatted release, church members promise to picket the funerals of the storm victims.

Beginning with the funeral for Matthew Shephard, the virulently homophobic Westboro Baptist Church started picketing the funerals of AIDS victims and those killed by hate-crime violence.  Their ‘they got what they deserved’ message and staged antics attracted scant media attention and the group garnered limited condemnation from officials and the populace in general.

The group has gained greater notoriety in recent years by picketing the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan to protest what the group sees as America’s acceptance of homosexuality.  WBC’s military protests have drawn the ire of government leaders and a number of states and the federal government have passed laws trying to keep the group in check.

Now it seems WBC is expanding its ‘ministry’ by protesting the victims of natural disasters.  If you’d like to assist in the church’s ‘outreach’ with a donation or give them a call to offer ‘words of encouragement’, they’ve conveniently placed their contact information at the top of the press release.

If you’re anywhere near Topeka, KS on March 30th, why not join The Million Fag March and give Rev. Phelps & church members a dose of their own medicine.  Click Here for more information.
