Getting Into Character: A-List Actors Doing Research at Miami Beach Gay Bar? PDF Print E-mail
Written by David L. Wylie

Actors Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor & Rodrigo Santoro were apparently boning up for their upcoming roles in the Brokeback Prison flick I Love You Phillip Morris being filmed in Miami.  The threesome was seen sharing a table & a bottle of Champaign and enjoying each other’s company Tuesday night at Halo Lounge, a popular South Beach gay bar.

Party Promoter extraordinaire Edison Farrow is accustomed to having celebrity visitors drop in for a drink or two at Martini Tuesdays, his roaming gay party.  The weekly Miami Beach soirée has attracted the likes of Sandra Bernhard, Janice Dickinson and Rupert Everett.  But even Farrow was a wee bit surprised Tuesday night to see actors Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor & Rodrigo Santoro sharing a table and a bottle of Champaign at Halo, the posh lounge off Lincoln Road that served as this week’s MT venue.
GaySoFla
can only surmise that the Hollywood trio were just ‘boning up’ for their upcoming roles in a movie dubbed by many as Brokeback Prison. In the film, actually titled I Love You Phillip Morris, McGregor plays the romantic lead opposite Jim Carrey.

The script, loosely based on a true life book by Steve McVicker, follows the life of con man Steve Russell (Jim Carrey), who ends up in a Texas Prison and falling in love with cellmate Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor).  His passionate affection for his bunk buddy drives Russell to try to escape several times, once by faking his death from AIDS and another time by dyeing his prison garb green to look like surgical scrubs. MOVIE SPOILER:  Morris is eventually released from prison but Russell had 144 years added to his sentence for his lovesick motivated escape attempts.  DOH!

While GaySofla would love to boast of having exclusive photos of the actor boys tossing back flutes of bubbly (water for Carrey), we’re chagrined to admit the online magazine’s editors were around the corner enjoying their own libations at SCORE (water for Geo) and unfortunately missed the scoop. By the time
GSF staffers made their planned stop at HALO, Carrey, McGregor & Santoro had slipped out of the packed establishment, perhaps to rehearse their more intimate scenes in private?

I Love You Phillip Morris
is the directorial debut for Bad Santa scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.  The dark comedy begins filming in and around Miami this week.  If you are not shy about kissing your man on screen then CLICK HERE for information about being an extra in the movie.
