Designer Andrew Christian’s promotional event at Miami Beach’s Score was almost eclipsed Saturday night (09/13/08) when television personality Brooke Hogan and her entourage dropped in to party at the Lincoln Road gay hotspot.  Hogan, star of MTV’s Brooke Knows Best, was checking out Room 727, one of the most talked about Saturday night soirés on the sandbar.

Christian, best known for his faux derrière underwear and swimwear, has been in south Florida the past week promoting his new line of “anti-bacterial, eco-friendly” underwear made out of bamboo (Insert your own joke here!).  The designer has also come out with a boxer brief with an image of presidential candidate Barack Obama on the front and “08” printed on the butt.  ''I just wanted to do my part to help the Obama campaign,'' Christian says. ''I think he symbolizes hope for the young generation out there.''

Joined by Miami Stylist Lymari Veloz, TV Anchorman Craig Stevens, Bravo Television’s Ariel Stein, and Miami Fashionista Young Na, and surrounded by a bevy of barely clad male models attired in nothing more than briefs (Andrew Christian, of course) and police caps, the designer held court in a roped off VIP section near the dance floor, enjoying bottles of Grey Goose.

While a VIP table was set up for Hogan by the attentive Score staff, the leggy, blonde, bombshell daughter of wrestler Hulk Hogan seemed more comfortable standing at the entrance bar, greeting fans and posing for camera phone photos.  One party-goer observed that Penny Back, the night’s promotion team, had raised the bar for gay club keepers of the velvet rope.  “Tiffany "Fantasia" Phillips and Chyna Girl are great but getting Brooke Hogan as door hostess is a gay party coup!” exclaimed the club patron who asked not to be identified. 

But Penny Back’s Tony Ferro assured GaySoFla.com that Brooke was not the newest member of the Penny Back Boys.  “Like everyone else here, Brooke is a guest and we hope she has a good time tonight,” said Ferro. 

A good time seemed to have been had by all.  Hogan and her cohort Glen Packard joined Andrew Christian and his crew on the dance floor, getting “Low, low, low, low” to the beats of DJ Marcelo.  An eclectic mix of music seems to be an integral part of The Penny Back team’s efforts to bring in a diverse crowd on Saturday nights and the plan seems to be working, evidenced by the packed dance floor.  The night’s VIPs were quickly engulfed by a kaleidoscope of bodies, young & old, guys and girls, tourists and locals, all grooving to a balanced merging of dance, house, rock and hip hop.

While rushing out the door a little later than expected (Too much fun!) to cover our next gig, we spotted Hogan and Christian engaged in some semi-intense conversation.  While it’s doubtful the amply blessed Hogan was inquiring about purchasing a pair of Christian’s ‘fake butt’ skivvies, perhaps the pop culture phenomenon was interested in acquiring a pair of his environmentally safe panties.  We here green is all the rage these days with the celebrity types.
